Orangutan Foundation - Thank You Letter 2006
8 November 2006
To Colette and all attendees of the 2006 Discworld Convention.
On behalf of the Orangutan Foundation, I am writing to thank you for your kind contribution of £4,750.00 collected at this year's convention. I hope that you had fun raising such a large amount! We really do appreciate and value your support. Thank you.
The Orangutan Foundation actively conserves the orangutan and its rainforest habitat whilst conducting long-term research on the ecology of orangutans and other rainforest flora and fauna within their habitat. Foundation objectives are to support conservation work in Indonesia and Malaysia and to raise funds and awareness in the UK and overseas.
In Indonesia, the Foundation actively protects Tanjung Puting National Park, cares for ex-captive, orphaned and injured orangutans and operates a rehabilitation programme that returns orangutans to a life in the wild. Care for ex-captive orangutans at our Care Centre is key to this process, and without donations like yours we would be unable to continue this work.
Your contribution comes at a key time when we are diverting funds to our Emergency Fire Appeal. At the very peak of the fires, we had sixty people working around the clock to contain the blaze and dig a 12km fire break. The cost of equipment and supplying the field teams with food and water stands at $100 a day. On October 16th, we launched the Emergency Fire Appeal enabling us to purchase essential equipment such as bore-holes, together with pumps, generators and hoses. Once constructed, bore-holes are a permanent feature so can be utilised in the event of further outbreaks. Your help has enabled us to increase long-term protection of the National Park.
Thank you again for your support.
Yours sincerely
