Vadim Jean (Director / Producer)

Vadim has recently completed Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic which he both directed and adapted for the screen. It is his second adaptation of one of Terry's Discworld novels for Sky TV and RHI. The film boosts an impressive cast lead by David Jason, Sean Astin and Tim Curry.

As a feature film director, Vadim most recently made his American directorial debut with Jiminy Glick in Lalawood for Gold Circle Films (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), starring Martin Short as Jiminy Glick from his Comedy Central TV show. The cast also includes Elizabeth Perkins, Kurt Russell, Steve Martin and Janeane Garofolo.

The film was selected as the Closing Night Gala premiere at 2004's Toronto film festival and receiving terrific reviews in Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and the New York Times.

Vadim started work as a runner on Stormy Monday (Mike Figgis) after graduating from Warwick University with a degree in History. He then set up a company producing everything from corporate videos to sports (BBC Grandstand, Eurosport).

Three years and a naively optimistic lunch with Gary Sinyor later, he was directing Leon the Pig Farmer with next to no budget but plenty of "chutzpah". The film went on to win the Chaplin Award for best feature at the Edinburgh Film Festival and the International Critics Prize at the Venice Film Festival.

The emotional drama Clockwork Mice starring Ian Hart (Backbeat, Land & Freedom), Art Malik (True Lies), and Nigel Planer (Brazil, The Young Ones) was Vadim's third film in three years.

In 1998, Vadim directed The Real Howard Spitz starring Kelsey Grammer (Frasier, Cheers) and Amanda Donohoe (The Madness of King George, Liar, Liar). It tells the story of a failed detective novelist who turns to writing children's books even though he hates kids!

His fifth feature, One More Kiss, is a love story set in the North of England and stars Valerie Edmond (Saving Grace) James Cosmo (Braveheart), and Gerard Butler (Tomb Raider 2, Timeline & Mrs. Brown). Following its well-received UK release, it has also made appearances at film festivals throughout the world.

Vadim has also established himself as a commercials director for agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, BBH, Abbott Mead Vickers, Bates Dorland, TBWA and St. Lukes. His campaigns have included "Blockbuster Video", "Sony Playstation", "Thomas Cook" and "PC World".

Last year he directed "Cuckoo" for Volkswagen. This commercial has become the most awarded VW commercial of all time. Awards include a Silver Lion at Cannes, Eurobest Gold and Gold, Silver and Bronze at the New York advertising awards.

For television, Vadim directed Skin Deep in 2002, an insightful and though-provoking 3-part documentary series for The Discovery Channel Europe presented by Body Shop founder Anita Roddick. The half-hour drama Just Desserts, which he directed for HTV, was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award in 2001.

In 2006, Vadim directed Hogfather, the first live-action adaptation of a Terry Pratchett Discworld novel for Sky TV and starring David Jason and Ian Richardson. Hogfather was awarded two BAFTAs the following year.
