Gideon Hallett

A graduate of the newsgroup alt.fan.pratchett and long-term denizen of various bits of the interwebs, Gideon fell in with the right crowd sometime in the mid-1990s and is still wondering where the last fifteen years went.

A space scientist by education, Gideon realised that mucking around with the Internet was almost as much fun as DIY rocketry and significantly less likely to get you landscaped in a terminal fashion; his IT career to date has been spent in various locations, usually engaged in the (eternally optimistic and moderately doomed) mission known as 'trying to fix things faster than they break'.

On first attending a Discworld Convention back in 1998, he found that running around trying to fix things is actually somewhat addictive, as well as being a great way to meet a lot of people; he has spent much of the last six Conventions helping out in ways that allow him to do this; first as Security, then the Watch and most recently as a Monk of Cool.

On the rare occasions that Gideon achieves a resting state at a convention, he can typically be found in the bar, near food, or in the vicinity of sharp pointy objects. There may even be singing involved, if you're very unlucky.
