John Hicks

Discworld fandom has been a happy place for John to play in since he first realised that more people than just him read Terry's books. This was about the time of the first signing he went to where the queue went round the whole (not-small) shop, out the door, along the shopping centre corridor, out a fire escape, down the alleyway and back again. The book signings have been followed by Clarecraft Events, Wincanton Events and Conventions. The queues also do not seem to have got any smaller though.

Of course, being the type of backstage/on-stage techie/thespian he is, John could not just be a fan but had to get involved. He directed his first Discworld play in 2001 and went to his first Discworld Convention in 2002. That was the start of a slippery slope and now he has directed three Discworld plays, one of which he wrote being a World Premier; has been Head of Productions for two Discworld Conventions and is on the committee for the Irish Discworld Convention (again).

In 2005 he won an auction to be a character in one of the Discworld novels and Dr Hicks (Hix) was the result. With Skull Ring(tm) protection now in place, John has been having even more fun at fan Discworld events!

John is back on the committee for the 2012 Discworld Convention and has plans for the main stage.
