Mandy is not new to volunteering having volunteered since she was 18, she has been a Discworld fan since the conventions started but never realised that such a magical thing existed! The penny finally dropped in 2008 when she attended her first convention, and in order to negate the deer in the headlights effect in an unknown environment decided to the follow the sage advice on the website and got herself assigned to as many gophering and watch duties as she could.
By the time the closing ceremony ended she realised how much fun she had had and just how many people she had talked to without having to resort to hovering in a corner hoping no one would notice her.
When the 2010 Discworld Convention came around she decided it was so much fun being a gopher and a member of the watch she would do it again. She did such a good job it, the big Irish man asked her to do it officially in 2012. Deciding it was easier to go with the flow than run away and it would give her even more time as her alter ego Esk, she did just that.
