Eelco Giele
Normal people like a book, read more of that author, decide they like the author and then might end up in fandom surrounding that author.
That sounds far too logical so Eelco did it the other way around. He first encountered some quotes from a certain pTerry on a newsgroup, decided that he liked the author, started reading the newsgroup and thought it might be a nice idea to actually read a few books from that Pratchett guy (turns out he likes those as well). When learning about an author by first entering its fandom, the step to conventions is easily made.
At previous conventions Eelco ran a few Leonardo da Quirm design contests, was a few times guild deputy and tried a sabbatical from all that at the last con. Wrong move as he soon found out. A convention without the hectic of organising stuff or running around doing things is just, well, it felt to him as if there was a large gaping hole in his convention experience in desperate need to be filled (he also considers this a hint and wants you to trust him on that one).
Luckily, he could still find lots of things that needed doing and made sure the situation would not occur again by volunteering for this convention (and getting more than he bargained for). He hopes the results will be highly enjoyable by all and at the same time try to keep the hectic to himself and those select few others who crave it.
In normal life Eelco spends his spare time mainly riding motorbikes, doing sports (most of which can be found in your insurance policies under the heading “exclusions”), organising stuff, meeting up with friends and in general enjoying the better things of life (like good food and whisky).
