Maskerade Entries

Preparation is the key to a good Maskerade entry. The more you have planned and arranged before the event, the more fun you will have!

Printable Forms & Notes

The following downloadable documents require Adobe Acrobat Reader. We recommend that you print out, and complete, at least 2 copies of the entry form and bring a copy of the additional notes to the event for your own use.

We have made some changes to the way the Maskerade will run to try and make it smoother and more manageable.

Each act may only have a maximum of two minutes on stage

You will, though, be given an additional 15 seconds at the beginning and end of your act to get you on and off the stage but this is not to be counted as part of your performance time.

Entry Forms

Please complete and return your Maskerade Entry Form as soon as possible so we can enter your details into the system.

All completed forms should be returned to:

PO Box 4101,
Shepton Mallet,
Somerset,
BA4 9AJ

The organisers are convention attendees too and would like to see some of the other events rather than spending the whole of the Saturday afternoon compiling notes. Don't worry if you need to change things after you have submitted your entry - that's what the Maskerade Registration is for.

Maskerade Registration

Please bring the following to the Maskerade Registration rehearsal:

At the registration, we will check that the details you supplied us are correct and go through any changes you may have made since submitting the entry form. We will also advise you of the best time to attend The Technical Rehearsal to avoid too much waiting around.

Most importantly, you will be issued with your Maskerade Entry number (beginning MA for adults and MJ for juniors). This is how we will refer to your entry from then on.

The Technical Rehearsal

The technical rehearsal is when you get to talk through your entry with the Tech Crew, make sure you can fit your costume through the entrances, and so on. There is no need for you to bring your costume unless it is particularly large - in which case we may need to know dimensions so we can measure stage space.

If you were unable to register on the Friday, this is the second chance, so please bring the items listed above with you.

Once all entries have been registered and their technical requirements noted, we will compile the running order.

Junior Entries

We are running the junior entries first with their own separate judging session so they don’t have to hang around longer than necessary. A junior entry is defined as anyone under the age of 12, but a young entrant may choose to take part in the main Maskerade - in which case they will be judged at the same time as the adult entries.

However, all entries have equal chance of winning the main prizes, including the Best In Show category, so there is no advantage to being in the adult section over the junior one. The Judges will inform the Maskerade organisers of any junior entries that should remain available and return for the main judging session as nominees for the main prizes and we will convey that request to the entrants and their adult helpers.

All entrants under 12, whether in the junior section or not, must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

The Maskerade Performance

Turn up at the Maskerade "Green Room" at least 30 minutes before the start of the event so we can check you in and inform you of your position in the running order. You will then be told in which room you should wait until you are called to the stage door.

When at the stage door (or alternative entrance as directed by the stage crew) wait until the MC has finished the announcement and your soundtrack starts or otherwise instructed by the stage crew. Then go strut your stuff, sing and perform your heart out to try to impress the judges. Come off stage to rapturous applause and go to the waiting room as directed by the stage crew to relax as best you can.

Once judging starts, wait around until they have finished their deliberations and then, at the instruction of the stage crew, make your way to the main hall for the results.

The Photo Call

After the Maskerade judging, you can take part in the photo call where convention attendees who want to take photographs may do so.
